Having stayed three nights at The Rectory, I must confess I find it hard to reconcile with other guest reviews. The staff, restaurant, and accommodation were all excellent. We arrived on a Sunday and decided to have lunch in their sister property, The Potting Shed, which was a great pub experience. The menu in the hotel restaurant is limited, with a choice of five starters and mains . However, the new chef is certainly making his mark with interesting and delicious dishes. The service was impeccable and attentive, thanks to Teho. We stayed in the Biggest Room, which was extremely comfortable with a great bathroom and products. Our experience was so enjoyable that we have booked again for October!

It’s such a shame the service is so chaotic as the food is consistently good. Such a slow lunch on Sunday that we gave up on pudding and went home. The menu is great but there’s a real problem with how delayed the food is and trying to catch the eye of a member of staff to order drinks is annoying we run an air BnB locally and couldn’t recommend this to guests which is such a shame as it could be brilliant

Took two friends last night to the restaurant and had an appalling experience: service was slow and chaotic, beef was very rare when we had ordered medium; sent it back for more cooking and it came back same as before. Overnight, two of us suffered food poisoning. When I called this morning, the lady on the phone confronted me with process: "you need to speak to the person in charge of dealing with food poisoning and the restaurant" as if this is a regular occurrence!! There was no apology until I asked for it. I was too ill this morning to argue, but leave this review so no one else suffers what we did. Go to this hotel at your own peril. I am a returning guest, and the service was never up to par but facilities were OK. I had no idea it has all gone south so badly.

This was meant to be a lovely birthday dinner for two, but ended up being a bit of fiasco. It was a late booking (8.45pm) and they were obviously very busy. Our table was not ready when we arrived. We had a drink in the bar but it took an hour before our starters arrived, before they'd even taken a wine order, and then almost immediately they wanted to clear our starters before we had a chance to eat them. It was chaotic and rushed, after a long wait to get to our table and give our order. The food was alright for the price but it was hard to enjoy under pressure. The staff were pleasant, just busy and in some disarray. We will go back, but not on a Saturday night!

Four of us went for a birthday celebratory lunch. Unfortunately a little bit disappointing. An extremely limited menu, the portions for the main courses were small, but what we were served was very good. These were let down by the desserts which again were extremely limited, very small portions and nothing special at all. Very overpriced for what we were offered, would hesitate to go back.

We attended a wedding at The Rectory. From the Friday evening picnic to the Saturday wedding and reception, every detail was perfect. The staff was very professional and charming at the same time.

There were 6 of us, very disappointed. The dishes were not consistent, 3 of us had smoked trout for a starter, all were of different sizes. I kept quiet about it but then came my main….. I have ordered a turbot (supposedly king of the sea) which was a tail bone with fatty skin on it a a tiny bit of not even cooked flesh. Beef and lamb served with disproportionately huge Yorkshire pudding and 3 slivers of meat. The only dish we’re acceptable was a desert. I don’t think we will be eating there again.

Disappointing Sunday lunch. We had a 2pm reservation but they had run out of beef, only had chicken left for the roast. Service was slow and they seemed understaffed. We came for lunch about a month ago and again we couldn’t have our choices of pudding as they had run out.

Tried to book a small intimate wedding lunch for 10 people, turned away because we aren't allowed to wear wedding attire ... "due to us being a small hotel and the glasshouse being accessible by the main restaurant where there will be other guests enjoying their own dining experience" Please tell me how dressing smartly would negatively impacts other guests dining experience?? You allow birthdays and other celebrations where people are possibly dressed smartly ...

My wife and I have just stayed for a two night visit with dinner in the restaurant both nights. I must say that our room and bathroom were spacious and spotless, lovely bed and bed-linen and the ambience of the whole place was great. The public rooms are relaxing and beautifully decorated with interesting artwork all around. Outside, even though it was late October the gardens are most attractive. Dinner on both nights was delicious and efficiently served by attentive and charming staff and my roast partridge was the best I can remember having. Breakfast was excellent. We'll be back I'm sure.
