We had thought of travelling to Orchha many times, but some how the program never materialised. But then this time every thing fell in place - connectivity and accommodation option and even our professional schedule. We had recently stayed at MP Tourism property in Gwalior (@Tansen Residency) and had liked it. So we decided to go ahead with MP tourism property again. MP Tourism has 2 properties in Orchha - Sheesh Mahal which a small heritage property located right inside the Orchha fort and Betwa retreat. We opted for Betwa retreat, booked a AC Swiss Tent on triple occupancy. We reached Jhansi at around 12.45 pm and then took a taxi to Orchha. Distance to Orchha is just around 18 kms but due to traffic, it takes around 40 minutes. The road was fine and the route is green and beautiful. The property is well known and is on the main road which goes towards the Chattris or the Cenotaph area. Its near Kanchan Ghat. The on which we were travelling turned, one part going straight to the river (ghat) and the other towards the cenotaph. This property is next to the Janki Vilas hotel, or let's say the last hotel on the road, before the crossroad for cenotaph area. We were given a warm welcome, check in was smooth, were offered a welcome drink. Hotel staff took our bags to our tent. The whole property is on a hillock and is beautiful with ample green cover. Our tent was spacious with a large bed (in fact we have never seen such a large bed in any property). There were 2 sections in the tent - one in the front, which had the bed, refrigerator, a small study table, an LCD Television, a pedestal fan, a small 2 seater dining table and two small stool like side tables; the 2nd part was a small dressing area - with a dressing table and a old wooden cabinet. This part was connected to wash room which was again spacious. They had given a small kettle, cups, tea, coffee, milk and sugar sachet and one unique thing - a box which had those bakery cookies (jeera / cumin ones, lightly salted). The tent had air conditioning too. Overall the tent was comfortable. There was a small table with 2 chairs on the outside of the tent. Perfect for those morning tea routine. The property is beautiful and has a swimming pool, ***** with rooms, cottages and tents. There are many heritage areas in the property; an original medieval structure which has now been converted into a heritage suite (it was under renovation when we visited). The restaurant and business center is located on the left side when one enters the property, again on a small height. The view from the restaurant is beautiful. The food is tasty. We had our lunch and dinner once during our stay. We had a buffet breakfast (part of our room charges - room on continental plan i.e. CP) daily during our stay - the spread was decent with cereals, fruits, dishes like poha, pakodas or vegetable fritters, moong dal badas (not like the south Indian vada), aloo (potato) bhaji (curry) with poori, dhokla or khaman, sweet ve

酒店回复: Thank you for sharing such a detailed and thoughtful review! It’s wonderful to hear that your stay at MPT Betwa Retreat in Orchha was both comfortable and memorable. Your description paints a vivid picture of the property’s layout, heritage charm, spacious AC Swiss tents, and the peaceful surroundings—it will surely help future travelers get a clear sense of what to expect. We appreciate your observations about the location, accessibility to main attractions, and the décor, especially the Bundeli-style artwork and heritage features. Your detailed notes on the food spread, room amenities, and hospitality of the staff highlight the positive aspects that make the property special. It’s also valuable that you set realistic expectations regarding the mid-budget nature of the property, comparing it to old British-style daak bungalows, which helps guests align their expectations. Your review will certainly assist other travelers in planning their stay and inspire MP Tourism to continue maintaining the property’s charm and comfort.

We have just spent 2 nights at the Betwa retreat. We stayed in the Heritage room. The room was amazing, with an anti chamber, small changing area, and wonderful bedroom with four poster bed and high ceiling. We also had two patios to sit on with lovely views of the extremely well kept and beautiful gardens full of flowers. The staff were all friendly, helpful and courteous. The food was good, served in a restaurant overlooking the gardens. Everywhere was clean and well kept. The only exception was the swimming pool, which looked grubby and uninviting, with no sun loungers. This is something that they should rectify quickly. It is handy for town, and next to the beautiful Betwa river.

We chose this place after reading some nice reviews about a peaceful and quiet place. It was everything but peaceful or quiet! The hotel next door decided to play some music and it felt like the disco was in our tent. We tried to ring the reception to be moved to a room the other side so we could sleep. The phone was not working properly so we went out to reception. The place was fully booked so we had to put up with the noise. When we asked what time this would stop, the member of staff lied to us saying 10pm then changed his answer to maybe 10.30pm (he didn't know, why lie? Just say you don't know!) The music went on till 11.45pm. This gave me a migraine and I didn't go to sleep till 12.30. We stayed in one of their tents, we chose the tent as we had a great experience in the desert in a tent but this was NOT great. The place was dirty and mouldy. We had some emergency bedding with us and had to use them as there were big stains and holes in their bedding. I suffered an asthma attack during the night (about 4.30am) due to the mould everywhere (I hadn't had an attack in 3 years) and couldn't go back to sleep. The electric was dodgy and we had several short power cuts. We used the kettle in the morning for a coffee but somehow the kettle was boiling and wouldn't stop and the fridge was also very dirty. One of the tents next to us had recently burned down and was left like that. We are used to traveling a lot and used to staying in different places. This was NOT a great experience (16 hotels on this trip). I didn't feel like the staff cared at all about our complaints. Now we have to drive to our next city with less than 5 hours sleep.

The Betwa retreat is a beautiful property of MP tourism situated in a vast expanse of forested area with the Historical Cenotaphs of the brave Rajas of the Bundela clan just adjacent to the property. Orchha Datia are a must visit for me as my Nana was Divan to Vir Singh Bundela and Peetambara peeth is my favourite Devi mandir. Each time I have stayed at the MP tourism property situated at Betwa retreat . Nestled in the Sangwan trees and well maintained gardens the Rooms and Swiss Tent are extremely well maintained by the Management. The Rooms are clean and the sheets and towels fresh and laundered. The staff is extremely courteous a major plus point given that it is a Government property. I will give the the credit for the courtesy and efficiency to the efforts of the administration of the retreat headed by Mr Shashikant Misra, their Manager. I was particularly touched by the thoughtful gesture of staying up till 11.00 pm at night with piping hot Dinner as our Vande Bharat train was over three hours late. Hats off to the training to the staff at the retreat. The food was home style fresh and tasty. The Chef is extremely good and will give you food you order not the usual hotel stuff. Excellent management.Thank you Sri Misra and all the staff for this amazing experience each time for the last so many visits.
