I stayed at this Courtyard by Marriott during a business trip to JMU, and unfortunately, it was one of the worst Courtyard experiences I’ve ever had.
When I first checked in, I was assigned a room directly next to the elevator. I immediately went back down to request a different room, and while the front desk agent did switch me, her attitude made the interaction less than welcoming.
The new room was no better. It smelled strongly of mildew, felt dirty, and was very outdated. Honestly, it had more of a motel feel than what I would expect from a Marriott property. I couldn’t even relax because it gave me the uneasy feeling that I might bring bedbugs home.
For context, I stayed at another Courtyard in Lynchburg the night before and had an amazing experience there. The difference between the two properties was night and day.
I hope management takes the feedback seriously because this location does not meet the standards I’ve come to expect from Courtyard by Marriott.

The first room we were given, the TV did not work, the second room we were given was fine, we unpacked and went to dinner, came back to find out the room across the hall had 2 barking dogs. We were told we could move but they couldn’t make the others move. We had to pack up and move to the 3rd room. Asked to see a manager and asked again when we checked out, I thought we deserved a credit, no manager there. Was told the manager would call, and as of this time no call ☹️

This is a convenient spot for me, but the bar and restaurant were not open. This most definitely should be information given at time of booking. I specifically chose this location for the convenience of not having to leave after a 14 hour drive and another long haul the next day. Will not return.

Pool was closed for repairs. Bathroom fixtures were not up-to-date; hard to manage. Not enough handicapped parking spaces. Light over little couch didn't work. This place needs some care and attention.

Other than the staff being mildly responsive the hotel was horrible. Issues to include hanging wires which could strangle children, Roaches, Ads for adult establishments under the mattress, Missing fixtures in the bathroom and heavy scale on the shower head that was obviously months old, furniture that was no longer able to hold weight, inappropriate repairs including structural screws used to hold shower liner in place and open holes in the shower where fixtures used to be leading to a heavy mold smell in the room, the air conditioner filter had obviously not been cleaned in some time. All in all if I'm ever in this town again I'll be staying at a Hilton property instead.

When we arrived at the hotel to check in they said that they were out of double queen bed rooms and they upgraded us to a king suite. The king suite has a king bed and a pull out couch. The pull out couch was a nightmare. The bar was in my ribs all night.
And, this is t really their problem, but our car was rummaged through overnight in their parking lot.

Wonderful 2-night stay at this property. The lobby and lounge area was very spacious and welcoming. Room was very clean and comfortable.
