I booked a hotel room for Spark Colonade for family weekend at UAB 10/3/25 to 10/5/25. When I arrived at the hotel it was not even open and there was a construction fence all the way around d it at 11pm at night. I called customer service at Hilton and received no help and nearest hotel was 30 minutes away for 492 dollars a night. They said they couldn’t do anything for me and were sorry. All of the hotels were sold out in Birmingham due to the football game on Saturday. I asked about Saturday night since rooms were at a premium and the hotel I booked was not open. Again sorry but nothing they can do. I opened a case number and this case was to be escalated and I am supposed to receive a call in 3-5 business days. It has now been 7 business days and so I called Hilton on 10/14/25. Sorry but the only thing they can do is offer 10,000 points for your inconvenience.

Stayed in Oxford, Alabama at the Spark Hotel. This was the NOISIEST hotel I’ve EVER stayed in!!! I did not get a good nights sleep any of the 4 nights I spent in this place. Every move people make is heard. Somebody doing room checks at 2:15am while doors were slamming, and the walls and floor vibrate when they do. Yes it’s been upgraded, but the way the bathroom was cleaned, it’s not going to look new for long. Mold in the shower, the shower and bathroom floors were filthy and someone wiped boogers on the walls in the bathroom…. So gross!! Lots of other hotels right here to check out on my next visit!

I booked the hotel on Hilton's app using points. When I got to the hotel it didn't exist. Sounds crazy but the hotel is under construction and not open. I tried to call and phone disconnects. Funny thing is I got the check in reminder from hilton the night before. I tried calling Hilton to see if I could book another hilton property in the area but no one could help me. They were basically gaslighting me into acting as if I was in the wrong. I booked a Marriott Springhill Suites next door and they were great. Hilton should be embarrassed about this situation. I had to pay last minute at other hotel and pay much more than if I had booked in advance. It's a total disgrace to the Hilton name. Hope this review prevents anyone else from making the mistake of booking there.

This place is closed and fenced off, yet they did not notify anyone with a reservation. Stay far away from Spark or Hilton.

We traveled here with a group or we never would have stayed here to start with. We were told that it was “completely new and renovated.” Based on the reviews I was ready to bail but thought we would give it a fair chance. We should have bailed. While the room itself was actually fine and “new”…the bathroom was not. It was gross. The walls were covered in questionable substances, the toilet paper holder was hanging on by a thread and there was a thick layer of grime along the baseboards. The one issue with our actual room was that one of the bedspreads was covered in something questionable (they did replace this upon request). The gym was closed, the washing machine and ice machine was broken and the lobby had a constant smell of a heavily perfumed substance. They say they will service your room every other day but this did not happen without requesting it. Trash cans were not emptied, towels were not replaced unless you asked for it. Several of the people we stayed with moved rooms not once but multiple times because of issues. We would have moved hotels but again, we were there with a group and decided to stick it out. The one “pro” was that the staff was very friendly and helpful. These issues were not their fault and they did try to help. Stay elsewhere!!!! Hilton should be ashamed their name is associated with this place.

This hotel was the worst. When I first checked in we were given a room with a dirty tub with visible red looking dirt. The front desk clerk appearance was disheveled and unprofessional . Although, she changed the room However, the second room the interior security lock had been removed. There were no face towels or shower gel in bathroom. The serving area for breakfast had a ceiling leak with a yellow mop bucket in the middle of the serving area. Of course, we lost our appetite after witnessing such unsanitary conditions.

This hotel is garage! We were traveling with a team for a soccer tournament. It was stay to play tournament so you had to pick a hotel off the list a book thru a certain travel agent. Picking the Sonesta select was the wrong decision, everything about this hotel is disappointing. There is remolding going on but I think it is just an excuse to be disgusting. Their a body fluids all over the box springs. At least hide them with a bed skirt. Usually I read reviews and make a decision based on those. I didn’t in this case I just picked a hotel off the list. If you are reading this. Trust the reviews. They are correct. I would never stay there again and would never recommend to anyone.

Price was right, hotel is nice, but I wouldn’t go more than one or two nights. I was originally told by the front desk that we couldn’t check in after 12am, they were accommodating to us when I called to let them know we would be arriving later than 12. It appeared though that the desk is open 24hrs. Beds and pillows were comfortable, but a little soft for my taste. The building is definitely older and under renovation so a lot of that will hopefully be addressed in the renovation. The front desk staff was very friendly and the hotel was overall decent. I would accept it again in a pinch.

Good - the staff was friendly and accommodating. The bed was comfortable. Bad - no breakfast ( I pick a hotel that has breakfast), everything out of order due to “maintenance “ such as gym, pool and even the ice machine on my floor. They had a new AC in my room. A mini fridge and a microwave used the last remaining outlet. Problem is that there were no more outlets to plug in the desk lamp ( which was unplugged) and therefore no place to plug in my laptop. My socks got dirty walking around on the room carpet. Yuck. It took three attempts to find me a clean operational room. This is an old tired hotel that has been neglected for a long time. I checked out after one night and went to another 3 star hotel that was rated #1 in Birmingham on Trip advisor.
