Five of us met for Sundau lunch. We each chose different meals. All arrived together in reasonable time. We all enjoyed our meals and left nothing, they were very good. Cost was reasonable and the service, very good. Will recommend and return.

Great food. Big plates. Restaurant very cold so moved into bar area. Lots of food 'not on the menu tonight'. Would be better just having a chefs board rather than a printed menu. Very ambient.

Had to wait over 50 minute to get a burger, soup and baguette and potatoes. We saw no other food and had to chase twice. V poor service and approach by staff. Great for a drink but expect to wait an age to get food

Honestly, we knew little of the history or its ambience, but we had a lovely time. The interior is fantastic: wood paneling, alongside interesting decor and a super chill vibe were spot on. A bit worried about the paper menus, but the food was absolutely fine.

Absolutely shocking. Anything from the menu we wanted wasn’t available and what was served was horrid. Yorkshire puddings were so hard you couldn’t cut them, mash was out of a packet, fish was greasy and gammon too fatty to eat. We did mention to the waitress and was met by a grunt. No interaction from staff whatsoever. I did email them prior to writing this and was met with radio silence hence my review

The actual menu was nowhere near the menu on line. There were no pies available and the beef stew was not only completely tasteless (more stock, more onions required) but took over 40 minutes to arrive. The excuse was it was cooked fresh. Beef stew? Really? Meanwhile other regular customers were served sooner. We were considering staying there next time we visit but if their housekeeping is as bad as the catering we'll give it a miss

We didn't stay here but went for dinner with our baby (place caters for babys) the venue of the Black Swan is really nice and has some brilliant character to it. It was my wife's favourite place we went for food as the pies had been delicious!! Food rarely defeats me and I'm regretting not finishing it as I write this review but honestly it was to die for. The room by the bar was lovely too with an open fire.

I went to see Charlie Dore and Julian Litman perform at their folk club upstairs, which was a really good night. However the evening was rather spoilt by the beer price. A pint of Black Sheep bitter was £5.90 and a half was £2.95. Outrageous. They may boast of having three ghosts haunting this pub - but the price of their ale was far more scary. Will not be returning as a result.

I can never turn my back on this pub, it really is a beautiful, old, traditional pub with open fires, wooden beams, and loads of history, but it is ludicrously expensive for a beer. The pub-co that owns it is taking the Micky. Shame, as I love this place but the price puts me off coming here. Shame on you Stonegate (the owner).
