This B and B had so many qualities; really clean and lovely smelling sheets and towels, nice toiletries, all those little things you want in a room (hair dryer, bottled water, coffee, tea and biscuits), a super comfy bed, a really quiet and restful night's sleep but what made it a cut above others was the friendliness, attentiveness and care of Brian and the fantastically yummy, locally sourced (and non-greasy) breakfast (with copious coffee!). I was travelling alone and am often anxious about feeling self-conscious but Brian was so genuinely interested and caring he made me feel a valued customer. I would highly recommend the Reading Rooms.

Great. Home from home. You need to experience this for yourselves to get real flavour. Self cater but breakfast provided, Comfy bed, decent on suite, plentiful info for locale.

We walked Hadrians Wall Path 19-22 September 2025 and the three of us stayed at The Reading Rooms in Haydon Bridge. We had a wonderful experience, we were hosted by Brian, who was exceptional in every aspect of our stay. The accomodstion was very comfortable and clean, with a well stocked fridge for our breakfast every morning. With a local chip shop, a pub across the road that serves food and a co op and a premier store we had everything that we needed within a couple of minutes walk. Thank you Brian for everything, John Dalton.

Bryan the owner was so very friendly and accommodating to our family when we stayed here. The breakfast is quite good and there is a lovely pub right across the street. we wish we could have stayed longer for sure.

We visited the Reading Rooms for one night in July and absolutely loved it. It's located on a quiet corner on the main street of the lovely village of Haydon Bridge. It was spotless and comfortable and outfitted with everything we needed; we loved the feeling of being in our own private space. Brian, our host, could not have been more helpful and friendly. He gave us great advice about how to get there from Hexham and even gave us a ride the next morning to Vindolanda museum. He was full of funny stories that made the visit even more enjoyable. We had use of the well-appointed kitchen, and a good breakfast of toast, yoghurt, cereal, and coffee, just what we wanted. The washer and dryer were very helpful! The evening we arrived, Brian explained how to use them before heading off to his place a few minutes away. When I came back to do the laundry a little while later, I noticed that he had placed the detergent in the proper receptacle to make things easier for us. It was so thoughtful. We only wish we could have stayed longer. We hope to return soon and make The Reading Rooms a base for exploring the Hadrian's Wall area.

I have stayed here previously and was amazed to be welcomed and remembered by the very personable owner. He explained everything very clearly. The breakfast system is great! Help yourself with fridge and freezer space available for each room . The room was well equipped, clean and comfortable. Good free Wi-Fi and the mattress was super. Excellent stay and I’m looking forward to going back in a couple of weeks.

An excellent stay in a lovely town. The room was very nice, and the kitchen and washing machine were super useful. Brian was so friendly, knowledgeable and helpful which made my trip to Hadrian's Wall and the nearby roman forts so much better! Would definitely return.
