During the tour, we were joined by Mr. Lokesh, the Head of Facilities. As we chatted casually, he asked if we were celebrating a special occasion. We mentioned that my birthday was the next day. Later, when we returned to our room after the day’s activities, we were pleasantly surprised to see it beautifully decorated. It was such a thoughtful and heartwarming gesture. That evening, we thoroughly enjoyed the karaoke session by Miss Arohi and Sujay (I hope I’ve got the names right). Their singing was amazing, and we truly loved every moment of it before heading back to our room—which was again stunningly decorated and extremely cosy and comfortable. We invited Mr. Lokesh, Miss Manjula, Arohi, and Sujay to our room to celebrate both my birthday and my husband’s birthday, which had been earlier that week. What made it even more special was when Arohi and Sujay brought a guitar and sang for us. We have honestly never felt so special—it was a moment we will always cherish. To top it all off, we were upgraded to a pool-view room with direct access. We had great fun in the pool; the water was delightfully chilly, and it added so much joy to our stay. The next day, as we were leaving, Mr. Lokesh and Miss Manjula came to see us off. We were gifted a beautiful parting present—a framed photograph of us ***** with their signature Chikmagalur coffee. It was such a thoughtful touch. We were also pleasantly surprised to find our car completely cleaned—both inside and out. It was literally shining, and this attention to detail truly reflected the level of hospitality offered here. This birthday is one we will never forget. It has been a long time since we experienced such genuine warmth and exceptional hospitality. Thank you to the entire team for making our celebration so memorable. And the entire credit for this goes to the wonderful team at Gateway Chikmagalur. While the resort itself may be slightly old, it is extremely well maintained and thoughtfully cared for. Its location is ideal — close enough to Chikmagalur city for convenience, yet secluded enough to make you feel completely immersed in nature, surrounded by hills, greenery, and calm. What truly makes this property exceptional, however, is its people. From the moment you arrive, the staff make you feel genuinely welcome — not like guests, but like family. Our experience truly began to stand out when Mr. Lokesh accompanied us on a nearby coffee plantation tour. He was warm, friendly, and knowledgeable, sharing the history and highlights of Chikmagalur during our drive. During our conversation, he learned that we were there to celebrate my wife’s birthday the following day. After a 15–20 minute drive, we reached Bean Breeze Coffee Estate, where we were personally guided by the plantation owner (apologies for not recollecting his name). He was incredibly passionate and knowledgeable, and the experience was delightful — we spent over an hour learning about coffee cultivation, different varieties of coffee, and the finer details that made the tour both informative and enjoyable. Upon returning to the resort, there was a karaoke session in progress with some evergreen songs. My wife happily took the opportunity to sing one of her favorites. Soon after, Ms. Manjula warmly invited us to enjoy authentic Chikmagalur coffee, served with such care and affection that it felt truly special. A little later, when we returned to our room, we were completely surprised to find it beautifully decorated, with a cute birthday cake waiting for us — all thoughtfully arranged by Mr. Lokesh without us requesting anything. What followed was nothing short of heartwarming. Lokesh, Manjula, the Chandrima, and the karaoke staff all came together to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The karaoke team even played a special guitar tune as we cut the cake. It felt less like a hotel celebration and more like a celebration with extended family. The rest of our stay was equally wonderful — a comfortable night followed by a delicious breakfast the next morning. As we checked out, the team surprised us once again by gifting us a framed photograph from our stay ***** with a small memorabilia — a gesture we will always cherish. And just when we thought the surprises were over, I stepped out to collect my car and was amazed to see it washed and spotless — without me even mentioning it. I have always believed that Taj hospitality is among the best in the world, and the team at Gateway Chikmagalur truly lives up to that legacy in every way. Thank you for a the wonderful hospitality, the staff knew just how to take care of my octogenarian father who has mobility issues, kept him comfortable and most important when our car had an issue, the concierge promptly got into the act and got us the help required, last but not least thank you to the GM who was present at the scene - kept reassuring my father that everything was fine and he didn't need to worry . These are very significant in terms of making the guests feel at home

I originally booked my stay at The Gateway, Chikmagalur for two nights, and I extended it by an additional day—that says it all. Experience was outstanding. The hospitality is genuinely best-in-class and consistent throughout the stay. Despite being within the city, the property doesn’t feel urban at all. It’s surrounded by dense greenery and jungle, which creates a calm, immersive retreat vibe—quiet, refreshing, and perfectly balanced. That contrast is the real differentiator. A special shout-out to Chandrima and Rana for their warmth, professionalism, and attention to detail. They elevated the experience significantly. Also, sincere thanks to Hotel Front Office Manager Sudheesh for running a tight ship—service standards here are clearly intentional, not accidental. Net-net: excellent hospitality, serene location, and a well-managed property. I’d absolutely recommend this place and would return without hesitation.
