If you like staying in buildings of character which have not been hacked around then this may be for you. So many old inns are now owed by hotel chains and their interiors lack individuality – The Rhydspence Inn is privately owned and by contrast retains a lot of its original features and is heavily beamed inside and out. A large open fire forms the focal point to the main bar area and there is a smaller fire in the adjacent room; both fires were kept well supplied with wood while we were there in January. There is a restaurant area but we preferred to eat in the bar as did a number of other people. The menu is not extensive but everything we tried was interesting, faultless, well presented and it was clear that the kitchen took a pride in what they produced. The Rhydspence Inn fortunately does not project itself as a gastro pub but if that is what you are looking for you are unlikely to be disappointed by the food there. The staff/current owners were very welcoming and helpful throughout our 2 day stay. Our room was in the old part of the building, had a king sized double and the bathroom appeared to have been recently refurbished. Access to upstairs is via a narrow staircase off the reception area but there is an external staircase which can be used as an alternative if required. My wife has mobility problems but mastered the challenge (for her) of the narrow internal stairs. We did not look at any of the rooms in the newer part of the building so cannot comment on those. We hope to return again when next in the area, it was refreshingly unspoilt, a popular local and a great place for travellers to stay.

My husband and I booked Sunday Lunch 2 weeks ago £19. Starter extra. Our starter came with CRUSTS to accompany the Feta & Butternut Squash dip, instead of sour dough bread. The Sunday Lunch was COLD & SMALL POTIONS, 1 carrot 1 parsnip 3 small roast potatoes & paper thin beef. red & green cabbage served together in the same tureen, so the red cabbage run into the green!! My husband does not like red cabbage & so his meal was spoilt! We will not return for food! But the setting & staff are lovely..

酒店回复: Thank you for your feedback. We’re pleased to hear that you enjoyed the character of the Rhydspence and found the meal tasty, but we’re sorry to learn that the portion size wasn’t to your preference. When we checked back at your table, no concerns were raised, and we would have been more than happy to provide extra vegetables or accommodate any requests. For context, the starter you had ordered came with toasted ciabatta, not sourdough, which is a smaller style of bread. Apologies for the confusion on this. We always strive to ensure our guests leave satisfied, and we regret not having the opportunity to address this during your visit. We would also like to note that we have not previously received complaints regarding portion sizes. However, we take all feedback seriously and continuously strive to provide the best possible experience for our guests. We understand that your husband has now left two reviews—one on this platform and another on a different platform—as well as contacting us directly regarding this matter. While we appreciate all feedback, we genuinely feel bad that this is still causing concern for you both after two weeks. We kindly ask that the reviews stop, as we believe a direct conversation would be more constructive. We’re happy to discuss this with you over the phone and hopefully find a resolution. If you choose to visit us again, we would love the opportunity to provide an experience that better meets your expectations. Please feel free to reach out if you’d like to return and we’d be happy to take care of you. Best regards, Craig

Once again, Craig, Freddy and Horace made us feel welcome and at home. Love this property for its quirks, friendly atmosphere, big comfy beds and the food just keeps getting better. Thanks boys, we will be back 😍

Lovely old Grade II Listed Building. Craig definitely the highlight. Red Mullet and Chicken for mains. Red Mullet grand. My wife's Chicken had an over rich sauce and seriously over salted Dauphinois. A single Dessert. Rhubarb with Flapjack and Creme Anglais. Flapjack far too sweet and steak knife needed to cut it - and good teeth! A bitter Macchiato to finish. And the smallest Gents loo I have ever visited, including Boats. Hayling Seagoon

Just spent two nights in this hotel and although the decor and furnishings could do with a little TLC this is more than made up for by the friendliness of the owners and staff and the excellent quality of the food

This was our first visit and it certainly will not be our last. The welcome we received was so genuine and warm. The food was excellent , we both had the three courses and left feeling incredibly satisfied. The portions sizes were incredibly generous and left no room for coffee. Cannot wait to try the Sunday lunch.

My wife and I recently visited the Rhydspence for a Wedding Anniversary evening meal. Upon arrival we had a drink in the bar, and we were handed a menu. The menu left me feeling a little underwhelmed. I asked if there were any additional options on a "specials board", and was told that all of the meals they served were special. My wife ordered the fish, and I ordered the Pork.... both meals were absolutely wonderful. I would add that my Pork meal was possibly the best Pork I have ever had. Well done to the team at the Rhydspence,,, Absolutely flipping lovely !!! Chris & Claire

My wife and I have just returned from a Sunday lunch, the Rhydspence is a stunning old pub with loads of character. We had the beef dinner which was tasty but small , 1 carrot ,1 parsnip , 2 slices of thinly sliced beef . 3 roasts potatoes, a small turine of cabbage and red cabbage. And a decent Yorkshire pudding. If pretty and small is for you then great. If your a fan of a carvery I'd try somewhere else.

酒店回复: Thank you for your feedback. We’re pleased to hear that you enjoyed the character of the Rhydspence and found the meal tasty, though we’re sorry to learn that the portion size wasn’t to your preference. As we mentioned in response to your wife’s review, we always check back with guests during their meal, and no concerns were raised at the time. We would have been more than happy to offer extra vegetables or accommodate any requests to ensure you left satisfied. We also want to acknowledge that between you and your wife, three reviews have now been posted across different platforms, along with a phone call to discuss this matter. While we welcome all feedback, we would like to reassure you that we have never previously received complaints regarding our portion sizes. Our Sunday lunch is carefully portioned to maintain quality, and while it may not be the same as a carvery, we take great pride in the ingredients and preparation of our dishes. We appreciate your visit and hope that, should you return in the future, we can provide an experience more in line with your expectations. Best regards, Craig
