Do you want to be called “gross” and told “I am also happy you will not be staying with us” by the manager? Do you want to be told there’s a room available at a price way more than the website shows, only to be lied to that it’s no longer available right when you’re about to reserve it? Then this is your place! Typical bait and switch scam I’ve seen many times where the website will not let you book the room and it shows a certain price…only to contact the hotel and it’s way more expensive claiming some scammy, scummy reason that they made up to charge you more. I wanted a sea view room and checked all of the booking agencies. NONE of the agencies listed a sea view room, so I decided to contact the hotel to make sure the agencies were correct. I talked with Kay (The Manager) said they actually had one. Asked a few questions, made sure I could check in late at 9pm and was ready to pay when Kay says “Unfortunately our front one bedroom sea view unit has now sold out for your dates” supposedly by way of booking agency online. The customer that snagged the room must have had some magic wizard booking agency, or I was lied to...because I spent a good couple of hours checking all the top agencies, as well as some of the ones that I do not trust that much to make absolutely sure they did not have one before I contacted them. New Zealand is notoriously known for not answering phones or email, so that was the hesitation to email them. It might be a blessing because many of the reviews say the hotel is old, run down, disgusting and bugs everywhere. You also see their employees or owners responding to reviews calling people keyboard warriors and insulting them, which is absolutely embarrassing, appalling and unacceptable! Also lots of reviews saying the employees/owners are ******, which sounds about right because once they found out I was American I was definitely treated differently. I will be alerting the New Zealand government of their practices and ****** tendencies so they can look in to this company and get them shut down.

We chose to stay here because they welcome pets and not only were they welcoming to our dog but also the room (like a small flat, really) was immaculately clean and well presented and had an amazing view, straight over the (quiet) road from the beach. Host was super friendly and helpful, suggesting child- and dog-friendly places to eat. Great location close to town and perfect for our needs.
