We visited as a mixed group of adults, teens and younger children, the youngest being 6. The adults are all University friends and we have an annual reunion. Howgill’s was one of the best properties we have rented and we have been doing these reunions for 20 years. The team were helpful and friendly to deal with. The barn was immaculately clean and very well equipped- the commercial dishwashers that take 3 minutes are a game changer when catering for 35! We loved the hot tub, the scenery and the great walks, also the proximity to Sedburgh. We hope to return.

We’ve been coming to the Howgills bunk barn for the best part of 10 years. It’s become an annual pilgrimage for our large group of 30+ friends (Adults and children). The oldest boys are all about to turn 20 and they still want to come! We had an enforced break for a couple of years due to Covid but have just returned from a wonderful weekend . We were not disappointed! The bunk barn is as lovely ..maybe even more lovely than previous ! Bedding and towels are all included now and more homely touches can be seen around the place . We’ll definitely be returning!

On the 2nd of September we arrived in Sedbergh for a fun filled weekend to celebrate our friends hen do. Little did we know that we would be in for a SHOCK. Although this barn is very homely and spacious there are many downfalls. Firstly, I would like to start by saying the lady who runs the place is down right RUDE. As a group of 22-60+ year olds we arrived excited and eager to get up to our barn. Trying to ignore the fact we had a lot of belongings to carry up the massive bumpy hill and hike to our destination, the lady drove past us, saw us struggling, stopped and decided to make a nasty about our noise levels (baring mind there was 30+ of us!!!) No welcome or offering of help, she just drove off. Secondly, I would like to address a few health and safety issues. One being very dangerous. You are provided bunk beds to sleep in WITHOUT ladders, tiny holes indented at the bottom of bed to slide your feet into and hoist yourself up are your "ladders". My mother in law has a black eye as a result of this ******* design. Further more, the silly fire alarm was going off throughout our stay randomly without any provoking, even to the point it woke us up during the night. However when we did cook, it would go off none stop due to the poor ventilation (no windows ect) in the kitchens. Fans in the living room just about work with balloons wrapped round them that make a constant clapping sound, almost as bad as the loud slamming doors. In addition to all this havoc, we received an email 4 DAYS after our stay to say that we had damaged the hot tub lid and would need to pay £500 (which may I add we have pictures to prove the hot tub lid is in perfect condition during our stay). It gets better...The ladders on our hot tub pictures are a different colour to the ladders on the "damaged" pictures that have been sent over by Howgills farm- which clearly states that they're using old pictures and this business is SCAMMING people out of their £500 deposit so they don't have to give it back to you. Howgills farm give you a list of do's and dont's and strict rules to follow, we abided to all of these and was even hoovering round, cleaning and tidying before we left as thats the type of people we are. The Owner came to visit us on the Saturday (the day before we left) to test the hot tub levels and failed to mention any of the "damage" we had caused which I find deeply irritating. Someone had to lock the barn after we left and check round, why wasn't this raised then? It was horrendous storms Monday and Tuesday after we left and I think they are using our money to fix the damage this has caused. We also got told there were marks on the bedding and towels so we couldn't have our deposit back, I'm sorry but you cannot expect 30+ women to not get any sort of mark on bedding/towels. If you can't wash them for your next visitors then I suggest you don't provide them. To conclude, just be aware of the lovely email sent asking you to review and that they hope you

Arrived for a family friends hen party weekend & had such a wonderful time, until we arrived home & received an email 4 days AFTER checking out to say they had charged us for £500 security deposit initiating we had damaged the hot tub cover - which I may add was perfectly fine when we departed on our last day (photo evidence to justify this). Despite this, ‘the owner’ also came to clean the hot tub Saturday morning & never once stated the cover had been damaged. In addition to this, we have also been charged for ‘staining bedding & towels’ which I find utterly bizarre, considering the majority of our party took our own towels & in relation to the bedding - a member of our party noticed stains in there bed upon arrival but there willing to charge us ?! Furthermore, I’d also like to state that we was told that our coach wouldn’t fit up the path towards the barn and therefore was informed that we would have to be dropped off at the bottom of the lane. Not long after we was dropped off, a lady that owned the bookshop complained about our party being in front of her shop, however we apologised and was very apologetic in regards to this. Moments later, as we walking up the path we was then approached by another lady in a 4x4 that stated she had just received a complaint in relation to the book shop - I’m presuming this lady was the owner of the barn. I personally found this host, very unhelpful - she could clearly see our group was struggle with getting to the barn with all our belongings but not once in this matter did she offer to assist us. In addition, we left the barn absolutely spotless Sunday morning on our departure ensuring every room was clean & tidy, as well as the fridges being emptied. The £500 does not justify how immaculate we left the barn, as party we are totally infuriated, extremely disappointed with this treatment knowing how we left the barn, it isn’t in any of our nature to have left the barn in any state other than how it looked when we arrived Friday.

Where do I even start on this absolutely fantastic accommodation. Right from the beginning the team during the booking process were extremely helpful! They were flexible on payments, organising early check in times, answered any questions I had and directed me to services and activities available to additionally book. When we arrived at the Barn we were swiftly greeted by the owner to complete the induction. Not only did the venue have breathtaking views and fantastic facilities it was immaculately presented. Our stay was to celebrate a hen party of 20. Howgills Barn was more than accommodating for that number of people. The cooking facilities, bedrooms, showers, laundry facilities- amazing!! The hot tub was brilliant, on our second day it was topped up in the morning ready for another dip! While the girls nursed their sore heads- the mums of the group embraced the beautiful local walk into Sedbergh village. We booked The Occasional Bartender for a cocktail masterclass which was so much fun! The cocktails were delicious, it was great value for money- Simon was professional, friendly and helpful with his ideas on which cocktails to make!. We loved it! I also booked The Flatbread Trailer for catering services- we had a 3 course meal which was delicious! Again Marc and the team were professional, friendly and the food was top quality. We transformed the games room at Howgills Barn into a DISCO room using our own decorations! We all wanted to respect the place and rightly maintained tidying and cleaning up! Overall, I can’t recommend Howgills Barn, The Occasional Bartender and Flatbread Trailer enough! I haven’t stopped talking to people about our weekend and I will certainly look to book here again for future events and recommend it to all my friends and family. Thank you all so much and hopefully see you soon!

Just returned from our second visit to Howgills. Fantastic location for a get together; kids and adults alike loved the space and facilities such as ping pong and hot tub. Surrounding scenery is gorgeous and excellent walks to be had. Local village of Sedbergh is a 5 minute walk with lovely pubs and shops. Highly recommended!
