This is Grupo Habita's newest hotel, in downtown Merida. The hotel is in an unassuming block, very well located. The public areas are beautiful, especially the pool, they've donde an amazing renovation of an old building. Service is attentive and warm, food in the bistro was good, not ridiculously expensive like other Habita hotels. The room we stayed at (room 13), however, was so bad it borders on offensive. You'll have more privacy in an airport bathroom stall than in this room. The bathroom in a Norwegian prison cell has more privacy than this room (look it up). Not sure when the trend to completely eliminate toilet doors became a thing, but it is one of the most detrimental decisions made by whomever designed this hotel. The issue is that there are no doors whatsoever to separate the room from the toilet or the shower, just bath curtains. You can hear, smell and see everything the person you share the room with is doing. The room does not have windows, just a double door with louvers that do NOT block the view to the hallway, which coincidentally faces straight into the elevator. Unless you want to make eye-contact with every guest staying in the second floor while you're lying in bed, you'll have to keep the door and its window shut all the time, which means no natural light beyond a skylight. This proximity to the main circuation hall also means that you'll hear not only whatever happens behind the toilet curtain, but also hear whatever is going on in the hall. The bed is small (they say queen, but i didn't measure it), and hard enough that you'll feel the slightest twitch of your bed partner. The cherry on top is that there is not a single hook or bar to hang towels on, or even a shelf in the shower to place the toiletries and bathroom amenities, which are all offered in glass bottles (yes, glass bottles in the shower area). If you by any chance drop one of them (which is likey because no shower shelf), you might risk breaking them and having to deal with broken glass from the shampoo bottle. I've stayed in youth hostels that were nicer and better designed than this room (room 13, advertised as a "charming room"). Do not be fooled by the official photos. We paid around 1,050 USD for three nights in this boho prison cell. Don't make the same mistake we did. Stay at the holiday inn express a couple blocks away, and come have a drink here to see the very beautiful public spaces.

I was on holiday with my family in Mérida and had booked a New Year’s Eve 2025 dinner at Hotel Sevilla. We were a group of 8, traveling from Dubai, Luxembourg, Syria, and other places to reunite for our annual celebration. Just 15 minutes before our reservation, the hotel sent us a WhatsApp message (not even a phone call) informing us that our booking had been cancelled. When we called, the manager explained that the owners had decided to give priority to some last‑minute friends, leaving us without a table. When we expressed that this would ruin our family’s celebration, he laughed and told us we should “think about the people in Palestine who won’t be able to celebrate New Year.” This behavior is unacceptable and deeply unprofessional. Cancelling a confirmed reservation at the last minute, prioritizing personal acquaintances over paying guests, and mocking customers in distress is a huge red flag. If you value reliability, respect, and basic hospitality, I strongly advise avoiding this establishment.

very bad experience today! they canceled our new years eve dinner with my family last minute while we were all dressed up and ready to get in the car. imagine the feeling. if this is not disastrous, what is
