After spending time in Jaffna and Trinco we moved down to Kalkudah Beach House for a relaxing 7 day beach holiday. This boutique guest house has received many highly favourable reviews, and it did not disappoint. KBH is set in a coconut plantation and is very well appointed. The service was of the highest quality, and we particularly thank Sunanda and Kavi, as well as the manager Mohammed and, in his absence, Nashanta. The Sri Lankan food prepared by Chef Sugath, and in his absence Chef Joseph, was delicious and varied. The Chefs discuss with you what you would like for dinner, with the menu only serving as a guide to what they could prepare. We particularly enjoyed the afternoon tea and cake, and the happy hour provided an opportunity to chat to other guests. The area itself is very calm and peaceful, but the fisherman that set and haul in their nets on the beach outside the guest house provide endless interest. Tuk-tuk trips organised by KBH enabled us to visit Batticaloa and the fish market at Valaichchenai and walks along the beach or on the track adjacent to the nearby railway line provide exercise.

Fantastic stay in Kalkudah Beach House in February 2026 This place is truly peaceful and perfectly designed to fully relax. We stayed for 4 nights and enjoyed outings to Arugam Bay, Kumana Park, and Batticaloa. But honestly, the best moments were the quiet ones at the house — reading on one of the terraces, swimming in the pool, or playing croquet and billiards. The chef Sugath absolutely spoiled us with outstanding food. My favorites included the traditional Sri Lankan rice & curry, the coconut crème brûlée, and the seafood ceviche. The rest of the staff was equally warm, attentive, and genuinely friendly. Congratulation to the management for their strong sustainability commitment: solar panels providing most of the electricity, water wells with a reverse osmosis filtration system (the white tower in my pictures), complimentary drinking water (filtered on site of course), and stylish refillable bathroom amenities. Nothing was left to chance. We left feeling completely recharged. Highly recommended!

We spent 4 glorious nights in paradise at Kalkudah Beach House. The setting is beautiful, right next to perfect sandy beach with no one on it, then the lovely pool to relax by. The food, cooked by Sugath, was absolutely delicious. I loved the egg hoopers and curry for breakfast and the seafood feast we had. The staff looked after us, always with a smile on their face and anticipated our needs. The house itself is beautifully designed with everything you can think of and spacious rooms with places to sit and relax in every corner. The gardens, with think luxurious grass going down to the beach were beautiful , with thoughtful planting throughout and very ell maintained. Highly recommended for a peaceful relaxing treat.

We visited Kalkudah Beach House as the final stop on our two-week holiday in Sri Lanka and it was without a doubt the highlight of the entire trip. Set next to a beautiful beach and palm-filled lawn, the Beach House is the perfect place for a relaxing end to a holiday. The Beach House has a wonderfully intimate feel. The rooms are excellent, the hotel has all the facilities one could ask for, and the staff are friendly and skilled. A gorgeous, secluded beach is right out your door; we were completely speechless when we arrived. Our absolute highlight was a day trip out to Kumana National Park for a safari that we are still talking about. That said, we didn't need to leave. The pool, games of croquet, and long walks along the beach kept us more than happily occupied. A special mention must go to the chef, Sugath, who is an absolute star. The food was genuinely some of the best we ate across the entire trip. We can't recommend the hoppers (made on request) enough! We were gutted to leave and are already dreaming about going back. We would recommend Kalkudah Beach House without hesitation.

We spent four nights at Kalkudah Beach House at the end of a busy two weeks in Sri Lanka, hoping for some serious R&R. Kalkudah Beach House delivered it in spades! The setting of the hotel is truly extraordinary — palm-studded lawn gives way to miles and miles of brilliant white sand. Unlike the packed beaches of the south coast, Kalkudah Beach is quiet and unspoilt. I have never experienced a beach like it. The hotel itself is beautiful. We stayed in the carefully restored main house, which was a characterful and stylish space. We spent our time relaxing by the pool, jumping in the sea, and playing croquet on the lawn with arrack cocktail in hand. The food, cooked by chef Sugath and team, was superb. We couldn't get enough of the Watapallan in particular. The service was attentive and faultless. On day three we did a day trip out to Kumana National Park and had a stellar safari experience. This park (only accessible from the east coast) is a real gem, being far quieter than other parks we visited on our trip and teeming with wildlife. We had the most amazing time at Kalkudah Beach House. We can't wait to return with all our friends and family in tow!

This house / boutique hotel is quite simply stunning with beautiful expansive views of the ocean. I would like to keep it to myself but feel compelled to tell everyone about it and to say that it is worth a stop whatever your final destination on the east coast of Sri Lanka. The staff are kind and attentive and their attention to detail is second to none. The young chef cooked the most tasty food. We had Sri Lankan curries including a first class crab curry and lots of vegetable side dishes. All were excellent. There is nothing to fault here. You will not be disappointed and like us you will not want to leave. Thank you to all the staff.

On a 25 day tour and the stay here has been one of the highlights. Just 5 suites so a peaceful oasis of tranquility. The staff are attentive without being intrusive. There are no TVs in the rooms but many books in multiple languages. There is an excellent WiFi service that beats WiFi I have experienced at larger resort hotels. The staff are very happy to adapt to suit one’s requirements. Waleed was ever available for assistance with his excellent team. A particularly enjoyable experience was the cooking experience where the excellent chef took me through preparing a veritable feast of crab curry with half a dozen vegetable curries and of course a symbol which one then eats. There is western and Sri Lankan food available at every meal depending on choice. A jewel of a property for Teardrop Hotels
