Staff at the Grand Continent hotel were very professional and friendly, the rooms were spacious and clean. The buffet breakfast was excellent with lots of variety, very tasty Indian and continental options. We enjoyed using the swimming pool and, when it rained, the pool table at the lobby. The hotel is just outside the town (about a 20-minute walk away) but next to one of Mahabalipuram’s important monuments. We would recommend staying at this hotel.

xtremely Disappointing Stay – Not Recommended Our experience at this property was far from satisfactory. • Staff Behaviour: The staff lack basic courtesy and professionalism in dealing with guests. • Breakfast: No buffet is served; the excuse given is “low occupancy,” which is unacceptable for a reputed hotel brand. • Cleanliness: Bedsheets provided were torn, unclean, and appeared previously used. • Facilities: The swimming pool remains perpetually “under maintenance.” The gym exists only for namesake – poorly maintained, with non-functional air conditioning. • Basic Convenience: Shockingly, the hotel refuses to provide an extra room key/card, claiming they don’t have any. For a property affiliated with the Sarovar Group, this level of service and maintenance is highly disappointing and tarnishes the brand’s reputation

Recently I went to south India Tour. For one day I stayed at Hotel Grand Continent Mahabalipuram. I selected this hotel because previously I had stayed at Sarovar Group of hotels at other places and liked them. Here Room was good, But I was terribly disappointed with fooding arrangement. There was no Buffet breakfast. The reason given was that Room occupancy is less. It is not expected from a star hotel where service is most important.

It hurts to give the hotel a low rating but the more I think about it, the more I am convinced that I cannot in good conscience recommend this hotel. Here's the good, the meh and the bad. The Good - - the staff is very earnest and sincere. genuinely sweet people who want to be hospitable. - location proximity to the monuments of Mahabalipuram - decent, big sized rooms. clean and airy. The Meh - - the food was strictly okay. We got room service twice and both times it was a desperate times kind of situation so we ate what we got but the food was very mediocre. The sandwich filling was tasty but sparse. The kathi rolls had more onion-tomato-capsicum than actual chicken. The breakfast in the mornings was plentiful but really nothing great. The Bad - - This pains me but as sweet as. the staff is, they are quite incompetent. On day 1 we had to ask for the shower gel and bath soap to be replenished in the bathroom. All three days, housekeeping neglected to refresh the tea/coffee supplies. At the pool side, we asked for a towel that we never got. We were there to attend a wedding and I had requested my silk sarees be steam pressed. They very sweetly accommodated my request on an urgent basis but weren't really able to press the saree very well... I feel mean giving them a bad review because they were so nice but they are in dire need of training. - this is basically an old hotel, acquired and refurbished and while it looks new and modern a lot of the old has been retained. Which means the towels are thin and scratchy. The mattresses are lumpy and uncomfortable. The pillows are terrible. Not at all good quality bedding and linen. This is not the kind of premium stay I expect from a Sarovar Portico property. Even though the staff as good people and the rooms were big and clean, the overall stay was not uncomfortable. I cannot in good conscience recommend this hotel.

Very good place to stay for a night. Not very crowded and affordable. Good breakfast options and well rounded service. Harpal was the one who greeted us on and took care of us. Will recommend staying here again.
