We were driving 500 miles, it was late, and the roads were icy, so we stopped at the Inn on 95. I regretted my decision to stay more every hour. Clues: You have to check in at the gas station then drive around back. 40 rooms or so, we were the only guests. The room was not much bigger than the bed. The nightstand was turned sideways to fit by the bed (you couldn't open drawer). Wires cut to landline. The 15" TV was disconnected from Cable (never got it to work). Lights from parking lot made the room daylight bright. Still, we stayed. When we got in bed, we noticed the smoke alarms had been removed. The next morning I asked the guest next to me (who had come in later that night) about this. He confirmed that he too had no smoke alarms and asked "Why? Is that a problem?" When I checked out at 700am, I discovered that this 'guest' was the night clerk. Advice: If you are headed South, continue to Winnemuca. It's only 80 more miles and the roads are better than what you have been on for the last few hours. If you are headed north from Winnemuca and don't think you can make it to Burns, Oregon 220 miles away, STOP.
