Be warned, this is not a hotel as its name suggests, nor is it the building pictured (that’s the adjacent pub of the same name which I discovered on arrival has nothing to do with the rooms). There’s no reception, no visible staff and no contact at all with anyone other than a vague WhatsApp on arrival day giving you a keybox code and info about a self-service breakfast. It’s not obvious where the entrance is at all, it’s poorly light and took some time to work out which key box was mine and how to open the thing. Great fun for a lone female on a dark, wet Feb night! Worse though is the fact that after faffing around (and genuinely sizing up if I should turn around & go home), I realised that the one for my room had been left still on-code - not secure at all. Once inside, I find my room, the Radcliffe - decent size with tiny ensuite. However, the window didn’t open, the tv remote had a gouge on its side (nearly cut my hand) and the toilet was suspiciously noisy … then by morning completely blocked. But as it’s not a hotel and has no-one around, there was no alternative but to use it - disgusting! There was also no visible fire escape info in the room which made me feel very uncomfortable especially as it appeared I was the only person in the entire building. Then there’s the breakfast room - a walk-in cupboard with a shelf of cereals, some fruit, toaster, microwave & fridge with the basics. No proper coffee and no where to sit so presumably the idea is make what you want then take it to your room. On the plus side, the bedroom seemed clean, was spacious, decent shower and clearly effort had gone in to making sure there was plenty food to choose from at breakfast (albeit it was essentially s/c). All in all though, this is accommodation is not as advertised and IMHO is not a safe option for solo travellers - really think twice before booking.

Breakfast included turned out to be Bread/Cereals no cooked breakfast unless you paid £10.
Excellent location, parking in street. Tiny room with hardly any space but It was fairly quiet.
Disappointing really. Stains on the carpet and you could not adjust the shower. Curtains were thin and not black out curtains.

Clean room with 2 twin beds.and cute decor. Just was very attentive. Attached pub (Railway Tavern) had a friendly atmosphere, and best English breakfast on our tip so far!

Absolutely loved this place. Rooms were very nice and the upkeep of this place was great. The staff was wonderful and helpful, the breakfast was very nice, cereal, yogurt, juices and wonderful jams, as well as other goodies. The price was well worth it, and it was quiet and restful. I loved it so much I have plans to return with a few months to share it with my family. Highly recommend this wonderful inn and the great people who run it.

Very poor experience. My young son needed to use a rest room urgently but turned away. No reputable hotel would ever do this to a family.

A very clean and comfortable place. The rooms were very nice and the beds quite comfortable. The bathrooms were up to date and there was plenty of hot water. The pub next door was very hand for a drink and breakfast in the morning. Very friendly staff.

No arrival details were sent, just a link to the hotels dot com app. Some simple instructions regarding the key safe used would have been appreciated. Luckily the girl in the bar had a scrap of paper with the details. The room was small but comfortable and nicely furnished. There's a kitchen/breakfast room with two chairs at a small bar. There's a fridge, toaster, microwave etc but no sink. Unfortunately, it was difficult to use the room because other guests had left three bikes in there, practically filling all the available space. Assuming the management don't actually condone this practice then it suggests a lack of supervision of the property. During the evening there was a lot of noise from the street outside which I assumed was from customers of the pub.

Arrived around 5 pm, went up to the bar. The young lady in the bar said we should have had an email and text explaining that cooked food was not available at the moment and we would have to go somewhere else for some food (we received no email or texts). We were then taken to our room and given a key. As we had been driving for over 7 hours, we had planned to eat our main meal when we arrived. As a result we walked over the bridge going over the river and found another pub/hotel who were very helpful and we had homemade steak and kidney pudding which was delicious. Our room had two single beds, a kettle with some tea and coffee. A built in wardrobe and en suite bathroom with a shower, toilet and wash basin. We also had towels, shampoo and shower gel supplied. The shower was ok for a freshen up. The beds were very soft and comfortable. Breakfast was in a small room downstairs which was a help yourself basis and you had a few cereals and bread/toast to choose from. We stayed for two nights, any longer would have been a bit of a push, but we only needed the room to stop over and it's in a nice quiet location. If you plan to get the train to Newcastle or Carlisle the train station is just down the road. There's lots of pretty areas close by. Overall, the service is very basic but it did the job for a short trip.
