Rarely as a motorcyclist do you find a great hotel with secure parking...when I say secure parking, they don't come much than the old town hall gates of this guesthouse! Someone in our bikeclub recommended this hotel and we were so pleased they did, as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hospitality was great, the food we ordered during the evening, the breakfast.....everything was spot on. The location couldn't have been better - we had already planned a full day of history and sight-seeing and the first stop was literally 5 minutes ride away (Yorkshire trench and dug-out). The rooms are massive, heated well and spotless. Our only issue we encountered was we didn't realise that the guesthouse didn't open their restaurant on a Monday evening and there is nothing open on a Monday close by (or so we thought) to purchase anything. We had to ride back to Ypres in the pouring rain and with damp spirits we didn't end up getting anything until we realised a tiny burger bar just down the road from guesthouse was still open. The lady owner was lovely, we were chatting to her and her husband for ages and eventually took our burgers and fries back to the hotel room. If going again on a Monday, we would eat a main meal at lunch and get a sandwich for tea. Overall, fantastic guesthouse, the roaring fire in the morning whilst eating breakfast fresh from the bakery was amazing. If in the area, we would definitely stay here again and are still recommending it to our friends.

The owners are a very friendly and accommodating young couple with 2 very well behaved boys. The hotel is immaculate and well maintained with decent sized rooms with massive bathrooms and a nice powerful shower. Comfortable beds. The dinner menu was not over large but we all found something we liked. My steak was perfectly cooked and with unlimited fries was a great choice. There is a choice of over 40 Belgian beers. The free wifi was pretty quick. Free car parking across the road. Secure covered motorbike parking in hotel courtyard. What more could you ask for in a hotel.

We had an amazing stay whilst travelling from the UK to The Ardennes. Very child friendly having a large garden/terrace in the back with swings and a trampoline! The restaurant has an amazing range of Belgian craft beers and the food was all local, fresh and sensational! The rooms were immaculate and looked brand new, only to find out that this place has been in business for 13 years. Definitely a must-stay when visiting all the local monuments in the area. Hats off to the owners for creating this very special place in the old town hall! Will definitely return 🍻

Just had a very good long weekend in Poelkapelle, Oud Gemeentehuis. Nele & Stijn are really the most excellent of hosts, ably supported by the oldest of their two delightful sons. We stayed on the top floor, in the modern rooms. I'm tall, so the slightly sloping ceiling was a nuisance but no more than that. The room was brilliant, only thing missing was a kettle! We have rarely slept so well in 'unknown' beds, very comfortable. Rooms are ample for a few nights, I wouldn't want to stay here for a week. En suite very good, nice thick towels & soaps etc. Good shower, nice pressure there. View from the bedroom was the church (which luckliy didn't kick off until 7 a.m.) and the main road, which wasn't too busy. Central heating is done via an airco, which would be brilliant in the (hot!) summers as the room is built inside the roof. Very clever. The service was very good, friendly and efficient. I was 'phoned on the day of arrival (whilst enjoying lunch in Zonnebeke) and asked what we wanted for our evening meal. (you see: during the winter the place is basically shut until Friday p.m. for all-day service and, therefore, their restaurant is also closed during the week) . At 5 p.m. , as if by magic, the bar opened up and we were all welcomed with a lovely, proper beer - and one glass of white wine.... The food there is very good. Nele reminds me of those cooks in the gulley af a submarine, who - somehow - manage to provide a lovely meal for all the crew! And very affordable. Talking to Stijn he informed me that he caters for 5% WW1 tourists, the rest are business people, contractors etc. Don't go looking for WW1 books and the like there (all other B & B's I've been to the seating-area's seemed cuck-a-block which books) because you won't find them. So, bring your own or make a new purchase. .... another excuse to buy a new book, or 2,3,4...! So: highly recommended!

This place is so very great. I am not one for false praise but it has everything that you could want. It is quiet. The beds are good. The owners are friendly and helpful. There is lots of hot water and ample parking. It is a 15 minute drive to Menin gate in Ypres from here with no traffic. Park outside the gate for free parking. Come back to the country quiet for your evenings. There is so much to see and do in this area. A car in recommended but the better way to travel would be by bike as the bike trails are outstanding. The museums in the area are so well done. Most people on the street stop and say hello. Dont miss the German cemetery and Brooding Soldier only 10 minutes away in Langmark In the winter the restaurant at the B&B is only opened on the weekends but it is full of people and full of interesting people as well on those days. Breakfast includes fresh baked goods, great coffee and the charm of a family run business. In the summer they have an outside patio and they rent scooters. I had 3 nights here which was not enough. What a treat it was!
