We just wrapped up a couple’s four day visit at the Featherbed Inn and Nordic Spa in Waitsfield, Vermont, and the experience was nothing short of outstanding. From the moment we arrived, everything about the place felt welcoming and full of character. The Nordic Spa is truly exceptional — a beautifully maintained hot tub, an incredible sauna that had extra touches uniqueness such as a spacious vestibule, and extra wide benches, and a must do cold plunge that makes the entire relaxation ritual feel authentic and rejuvenating. I’ve experienced many spas over the years, and this may honestly be Vermont’s finest. We stayed in one of the cottages/outbuildings, which was peaceful, charming, and incredibly comfortable. The beds, mattresses, and bedding were absolutely top-tier — the kind of comfort that guarantees deep, restful sleep after a day on the slopes. Karen and Mick, the innkeepers, are the heart of this place. They are warm, friendly, and genuinely hospitable in a way that immediately makes you feel at home. Their attention to detail and natural kindness elevate the entire stay. One of our favorite features of the inn was the fireplace, which was always glowing and inviting. It became the perfect gathering spot in the evenings — a wonderful place to relax with a glass of wine, share some cheese, and unwind with friends after an amazing day skiing. That cozy, fireside atmosphere added so much to the overall experience. The grounds are beautiful and full of classic Vermont charm. The location is also ideal — incredibly convenient to Sugarbush. While my wife enjoyed snowshoeing with her friend, we had an easy trip to the mountain for excellent skiing. Breakfast each morning was a true highlight that was planned and crafted with care. A creative and delicious three-course meal, slightly different each day, featuring imaginative, foodie-level dishes rather than standard fare of just bacon and eggs. The coffee was equally impressive. An unexpected bonus was the communal breakfast experience. We met fellow guests who quickly became friends and ski companions — a testament to the welcoming and social atmosphere Karen and Mick have created. Five stars without hesitation. The Featherbed Inn and Nordic Spa is a genuine gem, and we cannot wait to return.

Featherbed Inn is a gem! My husband and I had a wonderful stay, and felt very at home with Karen and Mike's warm welcome. It felt like we went to a friend's home and we were very well cared for and fed. The gourmet breakfast was scrumptious! I will miss and crave the scones so I might have to try and make some myself. The featherbed was very comfortable and the spa is excellent! They have hot tub, sauna & cold plunge. And despite my unliking to cold weather and water, never would I ever seen myself trying on a cold plunge. I didn't just tried it, I like it as well! Sauna and cold plunge is a great combo. We felt a little pampered by Mike and Karen's incredible hospitality. Breakfast was lappetizing & the spa was relaxing and impactful. We do not only highly recommend this place but this is a place we will insist on our family and friends to try on because it's worth it. We couldn't have any other better way to spend our 2nd anniversary. We love the Featherbed Inn and we will be back.

If you are looking for a place to stay in the Mad River area, look no further! We have stayed at the Featherbed many times over the years and I wish I could go more often! This past visit, we went with 6 couples who were blown away by the gourmet, locally sourced breakfasts, the beautiful grounds, the feather beds, and the hospitality that Mick and Karen provide. Everything about the weekend was amazing for all of us, including using the hot tub, sauna and ice plunge! Mick and Karen helped us figure out hikes and dinner spots, they helped keep a roaring fire, and they joined in on lots of great conversation. I hope you get a chance to take advantage of this gem!

Loved this classic New England Inn. Hosts Karen and Mick really know what they are doing here. The Featherbed Inn is cozy without being cutesy. The breakfasts are delicious and Karen goes out of her way to accommodate, and to have the Nordic Spa (hot tub/sauna/cold plunge) on site is a fabulous way to spend your days if so inclined. There is also the Mad River Valley which has great food, hiking and general tooling around options.

What an amazing experience - Karen and Mick are outstanding hosts who engage with their guests, provide tips on places to visit and help booking anything we wanted to do. The breakfasts were fantastic -- different every day and different from anything else I've experienced. The large sauna is a perfect way to round out a busy day! There are walking trails right to the inn plus the whole of central Vermont close by. Local restaurants in the area were excellent and Lawsons brewery is just down the road. All in all a most excellent time!

We had a wonderful time at the Featherbed Inn; we were there 3 nights and wish we could have stayed for a month! MIck and Karen are outstanding hosts. Breakfast was delicious every morning. The sauna and hot tub were great. We stayed in the Heather room which has its private bathroom across the hall, it was not a problem at all. We highly recommend this inn.

It's our only room that does not have an ensuite bathroom, but the private bathroom is just across the hall, and Heather has the best view in the house. - Karen and Mick

Karen and Mick make sure all their guests are well taken care of. From dietary needs to the impeccably restored buildings, to the location and the tips and recommendations, they made our stay fantastic. Karen cooks up good strong coffee and varied, filling breakfasts. She knows the area well and had lots of ideas for hikes, walks, shops, sights, and activities. Mick and Karen have the grounds fixed up for wandering, sitting and gazing, hiking, and comfort. Our evenings were-too chilly for us to take advantage of the lovely spa and hot tub-but they were there for the taking! Over breakfast as other guests come and go, we struck up conversations with different people from different parts of the country, comparing notes and thoughts for what to do, where to go. Waitsfield itself is a gem. We had 3 days of walking and hiking and soaking up the fall colors and crisp, fresh air of Vermont. I highly recommend The Featherbed Inn. We would definitely return.

I had the best time staying here at Featherbed Inn for a personal retreat - the hosts were amazing and felt like friends at the end of my stay. I was so sad to leave! I experienced personal growth and overcame my fear of the cold plunge thanks to their guidance. Waitsfield is also such a fun little Vermont town- I plan to be back often in the future!

I'm so glad I found this place. It was once a farmhouse, so it's very unique, with a lot of character. It's located in the country but it's very close to all sorts of restaurants and hiking trails, etc. and provides a natural setting for the hot tub, sauna & cold plunge. The innkeepers, Karen and Mick, are uber hospitable and gracious; they go out of their way to make you feel truly at home, from the moment you arrive until you leave. The 3-course breakfasts were very innovative and delicious -- straight out of a 5-star hotel! You won't regret staying here.
