The castle was used by both Germans and Americans as military headquarters during WWII. The attached museum has an extensive WWII collection to explore even if you don't stay there. Family-run by locals, our rooms were beautiful with French windows exposing the estate grounds, very peaceful at night. Several places to sit outside around a table to enjoy the scenery and sip some wine. A small bar/cafe is attached to the museum.

Staying in such a piece of history is an amazing experience ! My room is lavâtes where the small windows are on the 1944 picture. The owners are fantastic hosts with great and comfortable rooms as well as a great family breakfast. Had the pleasure to visit the museum in the morning which is fantastic. Great collection displayed so vividly that I had the impression to be part of general Collins staff !! Thank you to the owners and all the best with the future plans !! Definitely back one day !!

This is a very unique place to stay. The hotel itself is in a building from the 1500’s and is part of an estate that the owner has been meticulously refurbishing. He and his wife are both very interesting people. They also have a wonderful Burnese Mountain dog. The building/hotel owner is an admitted enthusiast of WWII history. During war the building served as the headquarters for a German general and, after D-Day, for General James Lawton Collins. Part of the building now houses a very unique military museum (https://www.tripadvisor.ie/Attraction_Review-g608795-d25576850-Reviews-D_DAY_Collins_Museum-Sainte_Mere_Eglise_Manche_Basse_Normandie_Normandy.html). The bedrooms have all been recently decorated and are beautiful. Each room is named after a WWII general (Eisenhower, Bradley, Collins, etc.) Note that there is no A/C and there is a short flight of stairs to get to the rooms. The stairs are circular so large/heavy luggage might be a challenge. Breakfast was terrific.
