We stayed at the Ara Garden Inn for two nights, in two different rooms: one with a little terrace on the ground floor and one with a balcony. The hotel is probably the best property we slept at in our overland tour of Flores, compared to the standards outside of Labuan Bajo. The rooms are very clean and the staff is friendly, the bathroom is clean and the hot water pressure is always stable. One little downside is that the little window in the bathroom does not close completely and the doors in some of the room have little gaps. This allows mosquitos and bugs to enter the room, even though this is not a big problem as we experienced in other areas of the island. The beds have no mosquito nets, which would be a nice enhancement. We don’t give 5/5 due to the breakfast which could use some improvement. There is very little choice and the food is really poorly done: the jams are kept in common jars on the tables outside of the fridge at least for a couple of hours at breakfast and, when we opened the homemade pineapple jam jar, there was a strange pop and some “vapor”, suggesting that the jam might have gone bad or had some kind of fermentation. On the second day, the scrambled eggs had a strong fishy smell and taste (either the eggs had gone bad or they had been cooked in a pan which hadn’t been properly washed): they were completely inedible.

Stayed one night here in August on our trip across Flores. Pleasantly surprised by this property. Better than the photos. The room was spacious and clean. Great shower and hot water. Large smart TV. A modern style room. Lovely Verandah to relax on. The gardens are lovely. Good breakfast and breakfast area. It is away from the main Ruteng area but not a problem if you have a motorbike or driver. Finally, the staff were very welcoming and lovely.

This is by far the nicest hotel we have stayed at so far on Flores Island. The rooms are new and modern and two have balconies overlooking the jungle and gardens below. The staff are also excellent - friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend the oasis in the busy city of Ruteng.
