We booked 4 nights at the lodge while doing a course at the Dive College next door. We upgraded from the dorms and apartments offered, thinking it would be a nicer more quiet experience after reading about the noisy street and younger guests. We didn’t have the all inclusive package with our stay because we were taking a course. The College and all its staff are absolutely top notch and incredibly friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. Shout out to Sebastian for being the best DM we’ve had over a couple hundred guided dives around the world. Here’s some pros and cons we encountered: Pros: Location of Lodge is smack dab in the center of town where you can walk 5 minutes and try 10 different restaurants Room is just a couple footsteps from the dive boat and gear room so no lugging your stuff far The over the water balcony adjacent to the room was so peaceful and even with the doors closed we fell asleep to the sound of waves. No street noise whatsoever, and let me say the Main Street in Utila is noisy. Best nights sleep ever! Food for the daily specials was really good and affordable. Great spicy shrimp tacos on Tuesday and drink specials. Plenty of outdoor seating on the dock to hang out The water around the dock had some nice tropical fish and a resident octopus named Ramon who we stalked everyday. Cons: For $100/night I was really expecting a better room. It was tired, not enough hooks or places to dry your stuff and just no frills. A mini fridge, electric kettle and beach towels would go a long way. For an island that is trying to be more eco friendly, swapping out the mini and single use soaps for dispensers would also be an easy fix. Breakfast was supposed to be included in the room price, but that doesn’t cover coffee which really should be in a large carafe free of charge like every other hotel. Charge for the speciality coffees. While the rest of staff other times of day were really delightful, Kathy in the morning shift was surly and dismissive with zero customer service to anyone. Sorry but for $100 a night on vacation I don’t want to feel like I’m just inconveniencing the staff by asking for coffee before an early morning dive, or god forbid ask for milk in it. We are about as low key, easy to please travelers you can get, but man she was just awful and we tried hard to win her over. Whether it was just not placing food orders at all, breakfast taking 45 mins because our order wasn’t put in timely so we had to rush to the dive boat, to waiting 15 minutes just to get a coffee while she played on her phone it was always something every morning. Had we stayed longer I just would’ve gone to a restaurant next door for breakfast instead. Everyone has an off day, but this was every day and while there was only us or 2-3 customers in the restaurant all having the same experience. Overall Utila is pretty loud, chaotic with tons of scooters and the beaches have a lot of trash just like Roatan. You aren’t going to come here for th

While this place is mostly marketed as a dive resort (we’re not divers) make sure you visit for their food as well!! We went for Taco Tuesday and tried one of each. Get there early for the sunset; taco specials start at 6:30! Absolutely phenomenal! Must try!!!

A very nice experience. All staff including lodge staff and dive crews were very nice and helpful. Shout out to the boat captain "Gringo" as he went out of his way to provide as smooth dive trips as possible. Braeden, Jim, Julia and Sebastian were great leading the dives. Katherine in the lodge made sure my dietary needs were taken care of. I would strongly recommend Utila Lodge for any scuba divers. Rebecca and Argen are very personable and friendly managers. All staff work very hard to provide the best experience possible. The different divers all came together and enjoyed each other's company

We did not stay at the Utila Lodge, but we ate at the restaurant several times. The best night was Tuesday night when they have delicious tacos on special very reasonably priced. Thursday nights they have barbecue, but you have to get there early because things sell out and get picked over. Do not order thebarbecue shrimp kebabs as they are small and dried out the mango salad was also rather a disappointment.

We really loved the convenience of the location of the lodge. We were also told from some locals that the best place to watch the sunset is the deck and they were absolutely correct. We also loved the fact that we could walk to several different places. The only issue we had was the Wi-Fi continuing to disconnect once we got to our room and away from the office/restaurant. The food was great, atmosphere was fun (and chill) and the views were stunning. The lodge is rustic but we were fine with that. We will definitely be back.

The spicy shrimp tacos are amazing! It was their special d’jour if the day on Tuesday. Don’t miss them. The whole place is built over the water so the views at sunset are spectacular. The drinks are good, the beer is cold and the people are nice.

Absolutely the best dive vacation we’ve ever done and so reasonable. The owners and staff bend over backwards to make your stay phenomenal. Lovely accommodations out over the water, excellent food, a fun and really friendly bar scene are all great but the real star is the diving. We did 17 different dives all around the island, every one different and the staff managed all our gear and assured we had a wonderful and safe time.

We enjoyed it here it here very much! We had the package that included 3 dives a day plus food (alcohol and soda not included). The expectation was it would be similar diving to Roatan but with fewer crowds. There were way fewer divers competing for dive sites which was nice, but I would say it’s hard to beat Roatan for good diving. It’s as big and crowded as it is for a reason. It’s also expensive. Utila Lodge was a GREAT value! Food was very good although not “gourmet”. Really nice people that worked very hard to make our stay nice. It is in the heart of Utila which is nice for walking but not nice as the music plays loud into the night. I’m not affected by that but others could be bothered. My #1 input is ideally fly into Roatan in time to catch the ferry that leaves for Utila at 2:00 pm. Otherwise you will take an extra day getting to Utila or paying for a charter flight that’ll cost between $250-$450 per couple (less if others are with you. Similarly, plan to leave Roatan at 12:30 or later if you want to catch the ferry back to Roatan. An early flight returning can be another charter flight or losing a day in Utila.

I did not go to Utila, but I sure want to... I made a reservation in March for a week's stay in June. I did this through a third-party booking site. I tried to contact someone at the lodge starting May 7th to get details regarding my stay. I emailed Rebecca Engel. Not response. I tried calling a few times, nothing. Four days later I emailed again. Then I was told by doctor that I would have to have surgery and would need to change date of trip. The booking site said I was able to make one date change before May 31st. I could not get a response from Utila Lodge, so I sent a change request through the booking site. They responded! They canceled my booking and Rebecca called me. I didn't want a complete cancellation and Rebecca said there was space for me February 3 -10 2024. Great! But since then I have received no word. I have left multiple messages asking for a call or email. I needed confirmation, payment info etc. I really wanted to get this confirmation before changing my flights. Apparently they are ignoring me hoping I will go away. I feel this is because I am a solo traveler and they are more worried about bigger profits. Whatever the reason may be, some kind of response is called for. I had already spent a thousand bucks on flights and they won't even speak with me. They are just hoping I will go away apparently. Really, quite cruel.

This hotel is comfortable with a very attentive staff. Coffee is delivered to your room each morning. The diving leaves just steps away and is super convenient. The food is very good. The village is also steps away. The detractor is that there is a party venue nearby with loud music until 1am - 4am on weekends. White noise, sleeping aides and ear plugs help, but if you are a light sleeper, prepare to be kept up. I would recommend staying away from the town center.
