A wonderful, peaceful location , an ideal base to explore the beautiful countryside and all it has to offer. Everything from James’ warm welcome to the filling and tasty breakfast hit the spot. All you could wish for in a place to rest your head.

An historic country house just over two miles south of the centre of Downpatrick. Our hosts, James and Nicola, made us both welcome, and we were surprised and delighted to be upgraded to the larger of the two main bedrooms, as they had had a cancellation. The room was very comfortable, on the first floor, with a good range of toiletries provided. The bath is huge! On arrival we were greeted by James and the three very friendly dogs, and a cup of tea and shortbread was most welcome after a long car journey. We learned a lot about the history of the house and the family over the next two days, and we had good advice about local attractions. Breakfast was delicious with a huge choice of accompaniments. I would have loved to have tried the home made bread, but I had already had my fill!

James and Nicola are gracious and generous hosts. Our room was not only comfortable but it was also beautiful. Every amenity you could imagine was available and many I never would have thought of. We were greeted upon our arrival by both James and Nicola, their three adorable terriers and were ushered into the drawing room for a pot of tea and homemade shortbread. It was like stepping back in time to a more gentle and convivial era. I highly recommend booking Ballymote House.

Lovely place, friendly hosts, very clean, well stocked amenities and the food was very nice. The location is nice, scenic and out of the way so outside noise is minimal but close enough to shops for a quick drive to grab any small necessities.

What a beautiful home. I enjoyed ever moment of my stay. Only sorry it was not longer. James welcomed me on arrival and showed me to a most wonderful room. I was visiting friends in the area so i had to rust out again. The breakfast the next morning was delicious and so so filling. All home made. I would love to stay again a little longer next time. Thank you Linda and James

Beautiful old house with lovely furniture and lots of interesting pictures, but very homely at the same time. Large comfortable room with big bathroom and every need provided for. Lovely cakes on arrival and a big welcome from James and the dogs. Excellent cooked breakfast with gorgeous home stewed fruit and vanilla sauce. Great location close to Strangford Lough and the south Down coast. Ask James about the family history - fascinating stuff!

My wife and I stayed for four nights in this lovely Country home. Nicola and James were great hosts and very accommodating. The breakfast choice was excellent and their home was very clean and well maintained. We would have absolutely no hesitation staying in this lovely family home again. We will miss James and Nicola's entertaining stories and conversations. We look forward to visiting again.

An absolutely charming and authentic home and wonderful hosts. Our room was comfortable and complete with thoughtful extras like you might find in your own home. We stayed two nights at the end of our self driving tour, using it as a base to explore the area on two days (Down Cathedral where St. Patrick is buried, Ballynoe Stone Circle, Inch Abby, Tollymore Forest and Castleward) and then catch our flight home from Dublin on the last day. We should have planned an extra day! We were offered tea as soon as we arrived and plenty of advice on where to go and what to see in the area, as well as great places to eat supper.

My ten year old daughter and I are just home from the most welcoming two nights stay in Ballymote Country House. We were made to feel like part of the family. Our room and bathroom were perfectly clean, the towels and robes, so soft and fluffy. The bath water was piping hot and there was an interesting and eclectic selection of books to hand for relaxation. We met the owners' three terriers and they got time to befriend our own dog outside together in the garden. This is a quietly elegant home, perfectly located and shared with us by a remarkably down-to-earth family.

A very warm welcome by the owners. Very comfy bedroom and the very large breakfast was delicious with plenty of bread. Great location for visiting attractions in Co Down and very easy to find as on main road.
